Join our #10KbyMay 2022 challenge!

In January 2021, we launched our first ever #10KbyMay challenge in an effort to raise awareness of the impact and types of domestic abuse, raise funds to support our vital work and spread our message of support to women in the Belfast and Lisburn areas who were or have been subjected to abuse from an intimate partner.

This campaign was a huge success, not only in raising funds, but in pulling together people across our local communities and beyond, uniting them under a common cause. So, by popular demand, the #10KbyMay is back for 2022!

What is the 10K by May challenge?

10K by May is an awareness and fundraising campaign led by the team here at Belfast and Lisburn Women’s Aid. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the impact and types of domestic abuse on women, children and young people, as well as to raise awareness of the life-changing work we do here at Belfast and Lisburn Women’s Aid.

The campaign’s fundraising target is set at reaching £10,000 by the 31st of May. All money raised by those who sign up to the challenge goes directly towards helping us continue to support women, children and young people in a range of ways. Funds raised could go towards:

  • Providing emergency support to women in the community for things like bills, food or clothes, when they have been left with no or little income
  • Renovating and modernising our refuge accommodation, including installing new household appliances like washing machines, fridges and freezers
  • Taking women, children and young people on fun trips out to help support their mental and emotional wellbeing

The final aim of the 10K by May challenge is the same as last year: we want to continue to build a community of supporters – people just like you! We know we have many, many people who support our work year-round, either with donations, time, online support or in other ways, so this is our opportunity to bring these people together and create a community of like-minded people who are passionate and want to get stuck into what we do.

This year, to streamline registration for our participants, your T-shirt and postage cost is covered in a one-off registration fee of £20.00. We don’t make any profit off this fee – it simply covers our costs.
